35 Battle Ground Public Schools High School Course Guide 2020-21 Calligraphy I Course Code: ART004 State Code: 05165 Schools: PHS, SVHS Grades: 9-12th Length: Semester Credit: 0.5 Course Fee: Yes Prerequisite: None Graduation Requirement: Fine Art Course Designation: CADR Basic lettering styles are taught. The class focus will be on learning how to correctly form each letter of various calligraphy styles, including (but not limited to) Italic, Uncial, Roman Capitals, and Gothic. Daily practice, journaling, and projects are focal points in building quality and craftsmanship. Some elements of design will be emphasized. Calligraphy II Course Code: ART005 State Code: 05165 Schools: SVHS Grades: 9-12th Length: Semester Credit: 0.5 Course Fee: Yes Prerequisite: None Graduation Requirement: Fine Art Course Designation: CADR Learn the historical background of Calligraphy as well as the layout and spacing techniques for lettering. Half of the projects are required and half are student choice to total 25. You will choose a variety of creative projects guided by "The Speedball Textbook." These projects include the Elements & Principles of Design for Visual Arts. Ceramics I Course Code: ART006 State Code: 05159 Schools: BGHS, PHS Grades: 9-12th Length: Semester Credit: 0.5 Course Fee: Yes Prerequisite: None Graduation Requirement: Fine Art Course Designation: CADR Ceramics is the use of clay and glaze in making a variety of aesthetic and functional art pieces. Methods include pinch, coil, slab, mold making and sculptural designs. Ceramics II Course Code: ART007 State Code: 05158 Schools: BGHS, PHS Grades: 9-12th Length: Semester Credit: 0.5 Course Fee: Yes Prerequisite: Ceramics I Graduation Requirement: Fine Art Course Designation: CADR Ceramics II is for those students who have successfully completed Ceramics I and are ready to move to a higher level of workmanship. Projects require more creative design and problem solving skills. Methods include pinch, coil, slab, mold-making, wheel throwing and Raku firing. Ceramics III Course Code: ART038 State Code: 05159 Schools: BGHS, PHS Grades: 10-12th Length: Semester Credit: 0.5 Course Fee: Yes Prerequisite: Ceramics I & II, Instructor Permission Graduation Requirement: Fine Art Course Designation: CADR Ceramics III is for those students who completed Ceramics II with a C or above. Projects require a higher level of planning and design. Advanced glazing and wheel throwing techniques will be required. Methods include pinch, coil, slab, mold-making, wheel throwing and Raku firing. Students will work more independently and may also incorporate glass and other media into their designs. Ceramics IV Course Code: ART039 State Code: 05159 Schools: BGHS, PHS Grades: 10-12th Length: Semester or Year-long Credit: 0.5 Course Fee: Yes Prerequisite: Ceramics I, II, & III, Instructor Permission Graduation Requirement: Fine Art Course Designation: CADR Ceramics IV is for those students who have completed Ceramics I, II and III and desire to create a body of work in the method of ceramics, with a high level of craftsmanship. Methods may include hand-building, wheel throwing and mold-making. Students will work more independently and may also incorporate glass and other media into their designs.
