All rehearsals, com- munity performances and concerts are mandatory and a prerequisite for maintaining membership in the choir. Commitment and dedication are the hallmarks of this group. Selection is based on vocal ability, musicianship and willingness to commit to a full performance schedule. There is also a heavy emphasis on solo work. All rehearsals, community performances and concerts are mandatory and a prerequisite for maintaining membership in the choir. AP Music Theory Course Code: MUS020/MUS220 State Code: 05113 Schools: BGHS, PHS Grades: 9-12th Length: Year-long Credit: 1 Course Fee: AP Fee Prerequisite: None Graduation Requirement: Fine Art Course Designation: CADR and AP Course The AP Music Theory course corresponds to one or two semesters of a typical introductory college music theory course that covers topics such as musicianship, theory, musical materials, and procedures. Musicianship skills, including dictations and other listening skills, sight sing- ing, and harmony, are considered an important part of the course. Through the course, students develop the ability to recognize, understand, and describe basic materials and processes of tonal music that are heard or presented in a score. Development of aural skills is a primary objective. Performance is also part of the curriculum through the practice of sight singing. Students understand basic con- cepts and terminology by listening to and performing a wide variety of music. Notational skills, speed, and fluency with basic materials are also emphasized. Jazz Band Course Code: MUS013/213 State Code: 05105 Schools: BGHS, PHS Grades: 9-12th Length: Year-long Credit: 1 Course Fee: Yes Prerequisite: Audition Graduation Requirement: Fine Art or Elective Course Designation: CADR This course is designed as a supplemental ensemble to the Concert Band. This class will serve as an introduc- tion to the rich history of jazz music. Through ensemble rehearsal, individual practice, and a variety of performance opportunities, the student will gain an understanding and appreciation for this great art form. Emphasis will be placed on not just performance technique, but also rudi- mentary improvisational skills, musicianship, and a sense of personal accountability. This ensemble is a skilled effort in which each student is expected to show technical and musical growth throughout this course.
