Students will explore proven strategies for success within our system of free enterprise and the emerging global economy. Analyze and evaluate the eco- nomic principles that influence business and consumer decisions, including the role of private property, the price system, competition, and government policy. Using film as a basis of comparison, students will move through history from Exploration to WWII. Students will view cinematic depictions or analogies of historic events and use them as the basis of comparison to the historic facts. Topics addressed include the following: Exploration, American Revolution, French Revolution, Civil War Period, Westward Expansion, Industrialization, WWI, Global Great Depression, and WWII. Students will discuss and write to domestic, political, social and economic issues. Students learn to employ spatial concepts and landscape analysis to examine human socioeconomic organization and its environmental consequences. They also learn about the methods and tools the geographers use in their research and application.
