Graduation Requirement: Social Studies/US History Course Designation: CADR The content study will then move to our nation's devel- opment from Post-Civil War 11industrialization through the 20th Century. Topics addressed include the following: emergence of America as a world power, reform, prosper- ity and depression, World War I and World War II, the Cold War, International Relations and Post World War II includ- ing domestic, political, social and economic issues. Students will study American history from colonization to the present using a variety of investigative methods. Empha- sis will be placed on using research and critical thinking skills associated with historical documents and artifacts. Students will be expected to read daily assignments and write evaluative essays. Students will be encouraged to take the A.P. History exam offered in May through which college credit can be earned. The cost of the AP exam will be at the expense of the student. Graduation Requirement: Social Studies Elective Course Designation: Washington State History is the study of government and politics in Washington State. Students study the cultures, geography, economics, and tribal influences that have shaped the state. AP World History: Modern Course Code: SOC032/SOC232 State Code: 04057 Schools: BGHS, PHS Grades: 9-12th Length: Year-long Credit: 1 Course Fee: AP Exam Fee (Optional) Prerequisite: None Graduation Requirement: Social Studies Elective, CWHGP Course Designation: AP Course and CADR AP World History: Modern is designed to be the equiv- alent of an introductory college or university survey of modern world History. In AP World History: Modern, stu- dents investigate significant events, individuals, develop- ments, and processes from 1200 to the present. Students develop and use the same skills, practices, and methods employed by historians: analyzing primary and secondary sources; developing historical arguments; making histor- ical connections; and utilizing reasoning about compari- son, causation, and continuity and change over time. The course provides six themes that students explore through- out the course in order to make connections among historical developments in different times and places: humans and the environment, cultural developments and interactions, governance, economic systems, social inter- actions and organization, and technology and innovation. Graduation Requirement: Social Studies Elective Course Designation: CADR World Studies is a semester course intended to help students develop a greater understanding of the develop- ment of global processes and contacts among different types of human societies. This course emphasizes relevant factual knowledge and differing perspectives related to historical change. Students will become aware of evidence of institutional, technological, religious, and geographical factors which have shaped historical events starting with the Reformation. They will look at the international con- text in which they live, encounter the major issues of the contemporary world, acquire greater understanding of the work of the historian and the historical process, and learn of their own national heritage. This course is to be taken in sequential order with the follow up course being Contem- porary World History (1945-2010). SOCIAL STUDIES
