60 Battle Ground Public Schools High School Course Guide 2020-21 High School Course Descriptions Honors World Studies Course Code: SOC029 State Code: 04061 Schools: CAM Grades: 10th Length: Semester Credit: 0.5 Course Fee: None Prerequisite: None Graduation Requirement: Social Studies Elective Course Designation: Honors and CADR In Honors World Studies, students will rigorously develop a greater understanding of the development and context of global processes and contacts among different types of human societies from 1200-1945 using a chronological and topical approach. This course emphasizes the use of original source documentation as well as relevant factual knowledge and differing perspectives related to histor- ical change. Students will become aware of evidence of institutional, technological, religious, and geographical factors which have shaped historical events starting with the Renaissance. They will look at the international context in which they live, study the forces and movements that have made the past continuous with and relevant to the present, encounter the major issues of the contemporary world, acquire greater understanding of the work of the historian and the historical process, and learn of their own national heritage. This course is to be taken in sequential order with the follow up course being Honors Contempo- rary World History (1945-2010). Honors Contemporary World History Course Code: SOC229 State Code: 04053 Schools: CAM Grades: 10th Length: Semester Credit: 0.5 Course Fee: None Prerequisite: None Graduation Requirement: Social Studies CWHGP Course Designation: Honors and CADR In Honors Contemporary World History, students will rig- orously apply their deeper understanding of social studies concepts on a global scale with added depth of content and instruction. From 1945 to 2010, students will explore major themes and developments that shaped the mod- ern world, including human rights, revolution, and democ- racy, to develop an understanding of the roots of current world issues, and develop the skills needed to make objective judgments about historical and contemporary issues. Students will also consider more deeply the role of economics in shaping the world's events. This course is to be taken in sequential order with the previous course being Honors World Studies (1200-1945). SOCIAL STUDIES ONLINE COURSES River Online is an opportunity for students to complete Social Studies classes (Washington State History, US History, and Civics). All coursework is online and completed both during a class period at school and/ or at home. However, all tests must be taken at school with teacher supervision. Students will be scheduled into a class period during the school day and attendance will be taken. An online orientation and parent permission must be completed by May 1st for students forecasting in the spring and prior to the beginning of the semester for other students.
