Nomenclature, the mole, atomic theory, bonding, gas laws, phases of matter, solubility, acids and bases will be covered. Laboratory skills in manipulation, observing, recording and reporting will be emphasized. Projects will include studies of agricultural chemicals, cleaning and personal products, and food science. Students will also become proficient in testing water, soil, and air for chemical components. Units will include organic chemistry, biochemistry, environmental chemistry, and industrial chemistry. This is a laboratory based course that will give students practice in applying their knowledge of chemistry to real life. CASEE Agroecology Course Code: AGR025/AGR225 State Code: 18003 Schools: BGHS, PHS, RHL, SVHS Grades: 11-12th Length: Year-long Credit: 1 Course Fee: None Prerequisite: CASEE Application Graduation Requirement: Lab Science Course Designation: Science Lab Agroecology focuses on ecology and agricultural principles and practices that encourage environmental quality, efficient use of nonrenewable resources, integrate natural biological cycles, and are economically viable and socially responsibility. Students will apply this knowledge using CASEE's 80-acre site, including a three acre garden, rangeland, forests, and greenhouses to conduct studies, labs, and research projects. Students will be trained using industry standard tools and protocols to prepare for both higher education and career opportunities. Includes instruction in principles of agroecology, crop and soil sciences, entomology, horticulture, animal science, weed science and management, soil fertility and nutrient cycling, applied ecology, agricultural economics, rangeland ecology and watershed management. CASEE Microbiology Course Code: SCI108 / SCI408 State Code: 03060 Schools: BGHS, PHS, RHL, SVHS Grades: 11-12th Length: Year-long Credit: 1 Course Fee: None Prerequisite: CASEE Application Graduation Requirement: Lab Science Course Designation: Science Lab Microbiology is a two semester lab science course cover- ing cell physiology and biological research techniques and genetic engineering. The course will survey the microbial world with its many branches of bacteriology, virology, mycology, parasitology, and others. The sub disciplines of veterinary, environmental, evolutionary, industrial, phar- maceutical, and food microbiology will be studied as well. CASEE Agricultural Biotechnology Course Code: SCI119/SCI319 State Code: 03099 Schools: BGHS, PHS, RHL, SVHS Grades: 11-12th Length: Year-long Credit: 1 Course Fee: Prerequisite: None Graduation Requirement: Lab Science or Occupational Course Designation: Science Lab, CADR Agricultural and Industrial Biotechnology is a two semester course which provides entry-level as well as advanced training in biotechnology skills, methods, and applications.
