70 Battle Ground Public Schools High School Course Guide 2020-21 Health and Physical Education Physical Education (ALE) Course Code: PED001/PED201 State Code: 08001 Schools: RHL, SVHS, CAM Grades: 9-12th Length: Semester or Year-long Credit: 0.5 1 Course Fee: None Prerequisite: None Graduation Requirement: Physical Education Course Designation: The physical education curriculum is designed to meet the fitness needs of the student and also provide the opportunity for participation in various sports and leisure activities. Students will be involved in conditioning exercis- es to develop their aerobic endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility and desirable body com- position. The primary goal of a physical education cur- riculum is to insure that the student gets much-needed exercise and acquire enough appreciation and knowledge of different activities in order to continue participation throughout adult life, as well. These activities are designed to develop the strength, flexibility, and endurance of the student. This course includes the state fitness Classroom Based Assessment. Physical Education I Course Code: PED002 State Code: 08004 Schools: BGHS, PHS Grades: 9-12th Length: Semester Credit: 0.5 Course Fee: None Prerequisite: None Graduation Requirement: Physical Education Course Designation: Suggested 9th grade course This course is designed to practice and develop skills in activities that will help students maintain fitness through- out their life. Students will understand the benefits that regular exercise can provide for a person's mental, phys- ical, and social health. This course includes the Fitness State Classroom Based Assessment. Physical Education II Course Code: PED070/PED270 State Code: 08004 Schools: BGHS, PHS Grades: 10-12th Length: Semester or Year-long Credit: 0.5 1 Course Fee: None Prerequisite: Speed and Strength Training I or PE I Graduation Requirement: Physical Education Course Designation: This class is designed to provide students with the oppor- tunity to explore and understand the benefits of fitness. The students will participate in various physical activities while building and expanding on skills learned from entry level physical education courses. Students will learn a vari- ety of fitness habits that promote a healthy lifestyle. Soccer Speed Strength Training Course Code: PED017/PED217 State Code: 08013 Schools: PHS Grades: 9-12th Length: Semester Credit: 0.5 Course Fee: None Prerequisite: Speed and Strength Training I or PE I Graduation Requirement: Physical Education Course Designation: Soccer SST is a course designed for any person that has an interest in playing the world's most popular sport, soc- cer. Students will be organized into teams and compete 1-2 days per week while monitoring their performances. During the other 2-3 days of the week, the students will work on the fitness and technical components demand- ed by the sport of soccer. These components include strength, speed, power, agility, flexibility, coordination, and cardio-respiratory endurance, as well as dribbling, pass- ing, heading, shooting, goalkeeping, and basic tactics. This course seeks to challenge and improve one's fitness using soccer as the vehicle for a fun way to get healthy. This course includes the Fitness State Classroom Based Assessment.
