We will build upon the skills developed in the Beginning Drafting course, utilizing Autodesk's CADD software. We will focus on the development of the basic skills and operations used by engineers, architects and draftspersons to express design ideas on paper. Learn the basic skills necessary to transfer ideas from sketches to either 2-dimensional or 3-dimensional space within a variety of software packages. This is the first of two courses that will allow the student to explore additional areas of CADD including mechanical/ manufacturing engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, architecture, and design drafting. This course builds upon the computer solid modeling skills developed in Introduction to Engineering Design. Students will use computer-controlled rapid prototyping and CNC equipment to solve problems by constructing actual models of their three dimensional designs. Students will also be introduced to the fundamentals of robotics and how this equipment is used in an automated manufacturing envi- ronment. Students will evaluate their design solutions using various techniques of analysis, and make appropriate modifi- cations before producing their prototypes.
