82 Battle Ground Public Schools High School Course Guide 2020-21 High School Course Descriptions ELECTIVES Marketing Seminar (School Store) Course Code: BUS032/BUS232 State Code: 12198 Schools: BGHS Grades: 10-12th Length: Year-long Credit: 1 Course Fee: Fee required Prerequisite: Food Handler's Card by second week of class Graduation Requirement: Occupational or Elective Course Designation: This is a laboratory class which provides marketing students the opportunity to develop "real life" marketing skills in a unique hands-on learning environment. Students learn about inventory, purchasing, selling, pricing, promotion, dis- tribution and management while running the daily opera- tions of the student store. All students are required to have a current Food Handlers card by the second week of class. WOODWORKING Construction Trades Course Code: VTI144 State Code: 17003 Schools: BGHS Grades: 10-12th Length: Semester Credit: 0.5 Course Fee: Fee Required Prerequisite: Wood Design I Graduation Requirement: Occupational or Elective Course Designation: Building Construction is for students who are interested in a Construction Trades Career. Students need to have taken Wood Design 1 and have an understanding of how to use power tools. Students will learn the elements of residential construction, and design and build various structures in wood. HVAC / Electrical and Plumbing Course Code: VTI162 State Code: 17059 Schools: BGHS Grades: 11-12th Length: Semester Credit: 0.5 Course Fee: Fee Required Prerequisite: Must have taken CADD or Wood Design I, II Graduation Requirement: Occupational or Elective Course Designation: This is a foundational class to gain knowledge in HVAC sys- tems, Electrical, and Plumbing in home and commercial construction. This is a prerequisite for Pre-apprenticeship for the Trades. Pre-apprenticeship Skills for the Trades Course Code: VTI163 State Code: 17001 Schools: BGHS Grades: 11-12th Length: Semester Credit: 0.5 Course Fee: Fee Required Prerequisite: HVAC/Electrical and Plumbing Graduation Requirement: Occupational or Elective Course Designation: This program prepares individuals to apply and enter an apprenticeship program. Includes instruction in the use of tools, general skill knowledge of the various trades, blue- print reading, general safety practice, Math and commu- nication skills. Students in this class will apply for various internships or have industry visitations. Students will either be accepted into the internship or continue their skill building during class time. Wood Design I Course Code: VTI107 State Code: 17006 Schools: BGHS Grades: 9-12th Length: Semester Credit: 0.5 Course Fee: Fee Required Prerequisite: None Graduation Requirement: Occupational or Elective Course Designation: This class is designed to introduce students to basic drafting, design, and woodworking skills that are needed to complete projects in wood. Students will learn to plan, problem solve, and construct quality items. The majority of time is spent on individual projects.
