85 High School Course Guide 2020-21 High School Course Descriptions ELECTIVES Course Designation: Cadets in this course must also be enrolled in a traditional AFJROTC Aerospace Science Course. This Course provides fundamentals and in-depth instruction in Air Force drill and ceremonies, to include honing a cadet's ability to per- form the AFJROTC 30-step drill sequence at the appropri- ate level commensurate with their enrollment experience. This course concentrates on the elements of military drill and describes individual and group precision movements, procedures for saluting, drill, ceremonies, pass in review parades, and development of the command voice. Cadets are provided detailed instruction on ceremonial perfor- mance and protocol for civilian and military events and have the opportunity to personally learn Air Force drill concepts and procedures. Most of this course is hands-on learning and cadets will develop teamwork, self-discipline, pride, and esprit-de-corps. The course will also address conflict resolution, goal setting, problem solving, decision making, ethics, evaluation techniques, and self awareness. HEALTH SCIENCES CAREERS Disaster Leadership Training Course Code: VTI078 State Code: 15001 Schools: PHS Grades: 9-12th Length: Semester Credit: 0.5 Course Fee: $10 Graduation cord fee optional Prerequisite: None Graduation Requirement: Occupational or Elective Course Designation: Students will be trained in disaster preparedness and relief to better help their family, school and community in a disaster. Hands-on training includes FEMA's Community Response Team (CERT) program, Red Cross disaster cours- es, psychological first aid, leadership development, and team building exercises. Students assist in the ongoing school disaster planning and are members of the BGHS disaster response team. Hospital and community disaster drill participation is optional. Disaster Leadership Emergency Management Course Code: VTI068 State Code: 15001 Schools: BGHS Grades: 9-12th Length: Semester, Year-long Credit: 0.5 1 Course Fee: $10 Graduation cord fee optional Prerequisite: None Graduation Requirement: Occupational or Elective Course Designation: An exploratory elective on the Emergency Response Careers and aspects of working in the emergency medical response field (EMS). Students will be trained in disaster preparedness (CERT), EMT skills,Healthcare level CPR cer- tification,and preparedness knowledge to better prepare and assist their family, school and community in the event of a disaster. Hands-on training includes: American Heart Association Basic CPR / AED & first Aid, disaster prepared- ness, fire safety, disaster medical operations, light search and rescue operations, the CERT organization, disaster psychology, terrorism and EMS/CERT, and practice in a mock disaster drill. Students will also experience guest speakers, field trips, have the opportunity to attend com- munity CERT meetings. Students will have the choice to become an active CERT member of their local community.
