A variety of hands-on learning such as blood drives, experiments, dissections, and creating medical products. Students will obtain their CPR/AED and First Aid cards. Students will have the opportunity to join your friends in HOSA (Health Occupations Student Association). These topics will prepare students to make informed decisions about their health and career. Advanced Health Sciences Careers Course Code: VTI036 State Code: 14001 Schools: PHS Grades: 10-12th Length: Semester Credit: 0.5 Course Fee: Fee required Prerequisite: Introduction to Health Sciences Careers Graduation Requirement: Occupational or Elective Course Designation: CTE Dual Credit This class builds on basic Heart-Saver CPR techniques and knowledge to the level of a healthcare professional. Students will also build knowledge of body systems, diseases and medical terminology from Intro. Health Sciences Careers while implementing more experiments and hands on learning within the classroom. WORK BASED LEARNING Work Site Learning Course Code: VTI172/ VTI272 State Code: 12998 Schools: BGHS, PHS, RHL, SVHS Grades: 11-12th Length: Semester or Year-long Credit: 0.5 1 Course Fee: None Prerequisite: See below Graduation Requirement: Occupational or Elective Course Designation: Juniors may enroll in one period per semester, seniors may enroll in one or two periods per semester. During the Jr./Sr. years, students may earn a total of 3 credits. Prerequisites: To get school credit for a part-time job, the student must: 1. Be legally employed. 2. Be taking a Career and Technical (Occupational) course, OR have taken a Career and Technical course. 3. Have a job that relates to your future career path. 4. Work 180 hours ( = 0.5 credit) as verified by pay stubs submitted after each pay period. 5. Receive satisfactory employee evaluations from supervisor. TEACHER / OFFICE ASSISTANT Teacher/Office Assistant Course Code: ELE001/ELE002 State Code: 22995 Schools: BGHS, PHS, RHL Grades: 11-12th Length: Semester or Year-long Credit: 0.5 1 Course Fee: None Prerequisite: Application/Permission of teacher or office Graduation Requirement: Elective Course Designation: Students will work in a specific classroom or office and provide support to the staff.
