88 Battle Ground Public Schools High School Course Guide 2020-21 High School Course Descriptions MATH 88 Battle Ground Public Schools High School Course Guide 2020-21 High School Course Descriptions The topics covered will include advanced study of matrices, graphing of non-linear functions, polynomial and rational functions, trigonometry, vectors, polar coordinates, conics, and logarithmic functions. Honors Pre-Calculus Course Code: MTH125/MTH225 State Code: 02110 Schools: BGHS, PHS, CAM Grades: 9-12th Length: Year-long Credit: 1 Course Fee: Prerequisite: Algebra II Graduation Requirement: Math Course Designation: Honors—Quantitative, CADR Class instruction will include a deeper knowledge of how to solve and create linear, polynomial, complex, logarith- mic and radical equations. During the instruction time, practical application of the Math concepts will be dis- cussed. The second semester will deal with Trigonometric properties, functions and graphs. Calculus Course Code: MTH014/MTH214 State Code: 02121 Schools: CAM Grades: 11-12th Length: Year-long Credit: 1 Course Fee: None Prerequisite: Pre-Calculus Graduation Requirement: Math Course Designation: CADR—Quantitative An integrated study of differential calculus with analytic Geometry. Topics covered include limits and continuity of functions, derivatives and their applications, and integrals and their applications. This course is designed as a pre-col- lege calculus prep course that will help a student succeed in their college calculus courses. AP Calculus AB Course Code: MTH015/MTH215 State Code: 02124 Schools: BGHS Grades: 9-12th Length: Year-long Credit: 1 Course Fee: AP Exam Fee (Optional) Prerequisite: Pre-Calculus Graduation Requirement: Math or Elective Course Designation: AP Course—Quantitative, CADR This class is designed to be an introduction to college-level calculus. Topics covered will include derivation and inte- gration, graphing and the analysis of equations (including trigonometric and exponential functions), limits, and the application of calculus to business and science. Students who pass the AP exam will be eligible for college credit. AP Calculus BC Course Code: MTH042/MTH242 State Code: 02125 Schools: PHS Grades: 11-12th Length: Year-long Credit: 1 Course Fee: AP Exam Fee (Optional) Prerequisite: Pre-Calculus Graduation Requirement: Math or Elective Course Designation: AP Course—Quantitative, CADR This course will prepare students to take the Advanced Placement Test for Calculus in May. If the student receives a passing grade on that test, he/she may be given credit or a course waiver for the first year of college calculus. The rigor needed in effort and the topics covered (functions, graphs, limits, derivatives, integrals, polynomial approx- imations, and series) are comparable to the first year of college calculus. The course emphasizes a multi-repre- sentational approach to calculus with concepts, results, and problems being expressed geometrically, numerically, analytically, and verbally. Geometry Course Code: MTH006/MTH206 State Code: 02072 Schools: BGHS, PHS, RHL, SVHS Grades: 9-12th Length: Year-long Credit: 1 This course is also offered online. Course Fee: None Prerequisite: None Graduation Requirement: Math Course Designation: CADR The course is centered around problems and investi- gations that build spatial visualization skills, conceptual understanding of the topics, and an awareness of connec- tions between different Mathematical ideas. Key concepts addressed are transformations and symmetry, relation- ships between figures, properties and measurements of two-and three-dimensional figures including trigonome- try, conjectures and proofs, constructions, probability, and maintenance of algebra skills.
