NCAA Eligibility Center & Requirements If you plan to participate in college athletics at the NCAA Division I or II level, then we encourage you to plan ahead and get familiar with NCAA eligibility requirements. The requirements for Division I and Division II are slightly different, but based on the same four general principles: • You must graduate from high school; AND • You must successfully complete all NCAA-approved core courses; AND • You must have a minimum GPA of 2.3 in core courses; AND • You must have a minimum qualifying score on the ACT or SAT. Students should make sure that 10 of the 16 NCAA core courses are completed before the student's senior year (7th semester) of high school. For specific information about eligibility requirements, visit: eligibilitycenter.org Freshmen • Align your post high school goals with your High School and Beyond Plan • Student-athletes familiarize yourself with NCAA eligibility requirements • October - Consider taking the PSAT exam • Attend the district's college & career fairs Seniors • Complete your High School and Beyond Plan • Student-athletes confirm progress toward fulfilling NCAA eligibility requirements • Oct. 1 - Fill out the online FAFSA form • Apply for scholarships • Take the SAT or ACT exam • Apply for college, technical school, an apprenticeship or the military Sophomores • Update High School and Beyond Plan • Student-athletes keep tabs on progress toward fulfilling NCAA eligibility requirements • October - Consider taking the PSAT exam • Attend the district's college & career fairs Juniors • Update High School and Beyond Plan • Student-athletes track progress toward fulfilling NCAA eligibility requirements • October - Take the PSAT exam for the National Merit Scholarship competition • Note college, apprenticeship and military application deadlines • Research scholarships • Attend the district's college & career fairs Admission Exams Facts Admissions officials consider ACT and SAT scores submitted with college applications as predic- tors for college success and measures of student achievement. A majority of colleges and universities require either SAT or ACT scores for admission. The PSAT is offered in October, while the ACT and SAT are offered a few times throughout the year. Students are responsible for exam fees. Check college websites to determine test score requirements. SAT: collegereadiness.collegeboard. org/sat ACT: act.org Financial Aid Incoming college students must fill out the online Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form each year to determine eligibility for federal financial aid. The application period begins October 1 for the following school year, and the very strict federal deadline for FAFSA submission is June 30. Colleges and states might have their own deadlines.
