38 High School Course Guide 2020-21 Floral Design II Course Code: AGR105 State Code: 18999 Schools: BGHS, PHS Grades: 9-12th Length: Semester Credit: 0.5 Course Fee: Yes Prerequisite: Floral Design I Graduation Requirement: Fine Art or Occupational Course Designation: Emphasis will include customer service, advertising, mar- keting, planning and management of the Tiger or Prairie Floral Shop. Students will continue a portfolio which show- cases the skills mastered. Hands-on skills will include a doz- en and half-dozen roses in a vase, wedding planning, bridal bouquets, hand held bouquets, vase arrangements, and wristlet corsages. Occupational leadership activities, and supervised agricultural experience projects will be included. May not be used for fine art credit for college entrance. Glass and Wood Art I Course Code: VTI083 State Code: 13053 Schools: BGHS Grades: 9-12th Length: Semester Credit: 0.5 Course Fee: Yes Prerequisite: None Graduation Requirement: Fine Art or Occupational Course Designation: This class unites artistic ideas with hands-on skills to create magnificent student masterpieces. Students will explore a variety of glass and wood arts including: molten glass formed through torch work, fuse glass melted in miniature kilns, mosaic glass images, stained glass and wood lathing. This unique classroom experience inspires students to expand their concept of what art is and who creates it. Glass and Wood Art II Course Code: VTI086 State Code: 13053 Schools: BGHS Grades: 9-12th Length: Semester Credit: 0.5 Course Fee: Yes Prerequisite: Glass and Wood Art I Graduation Requirement: Fine Art or Occupational Course Designation: This advanced class works to unite artistic skills with the artist's vision. Students will work to master skills developed in Glass and Wood Art 1 by exploring a variety of glass and wood arts including: molten glass formed through torch work, fuse glass imagery and sandblasting, glass casting, stained glass, and wood intarsia. This unique classroom ex- perience inspires students to develop their artistic identity through exploration and mastery. Introduction to Graphic Communications Course Code: VTI016/VTI216 State Code: 11153 Schools: CAM, RHL Grades: 9-12th Length: Year-long Credit: 0.5 Course Fee: Yes Prerequisite: None Graduation Requirement: Fine Art or Occupational Course Designation: This class combines graphic arts skills and communication skills. Students will learn Photoshop, page layout principles and skills, presentation and discussion skills, graphic collection and manipulation skills, leadership and photography. May provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to produce the school newspaper, yearbook, literary magazine, or other printed publication. Students may gain experience in several components (writing, editing, layout, production, and so on) or may focus on a single aspect while producing the publication. (This course was formally Yearbook Publishing at RHL). Graphic Design I Course Code: VTI014 State Code: 11104 Schools: BGHS, PHS Grades: 9-12th Length: Semester Credit: 0.5 Course Fee: Yes Prerequisite: Internet Release Form Graduation Requirement: Fine Art or Occupational Course Designation: CADR This course is hands-on and project-based, for students who wish to learn important basic design skills. Students will design a variety of printed materials while learning about good design practices. The course is a good starting point for students interested in a career in art, or for those planning to continue on to Graphics Design 2, Web Design, and Digital Photography.
