61 Battle Ground Public Schools High School Course Guide 2020-21 AFJROTC The Science of Flight Course Code: VTI071/VTI271 State Code: 09152 Schools: BGHS, PHS Grades: 9-12th Length: Year-long Credit: 1 Course Fee: None Prerequisite: None Graduation Requirement: Lab Science or Occupational Course Designation: Science Lab Students will study the aerospace environment, human requirements for flight, principles of flight, and naviga- tion. Leadership education will focus on communication, personal development, building personal awareness, understanding groups and teams, health and fitness, and the leadership model. All students are required to wear an Air Force furnished uniform one day per week. At least one field trip to a class related activity is planned. This class is offered every other year with Exploring Space. AFJROTC Exploring Space Course Code: VTI069/VTI269 State Code: 09153 Schools: BGHS, PHS Grades: 9-12th Length: Year-long Credit: 1 Course Fee: none Prerequisite: None Graduation Requirement: Lab Science or Occupational Course Designation: Science Lab This is a science elective course designed to acquaint the student with the space environment, space explora- tion programs, space technology and the challenges of manned space flight. Students will study the effects of the sun and its planetary systems, and become familiar with national and international space programs. They will learn aviation concepts, space technology, rocketry, the impact of space exploration on everyday living and understand the challenges of manned and unmanned space flight. With a combination of classroom activities, student projects and laboratory exercises, students will explore how science and agriculture work together to improve our everyday lives. Topics will include: leadership, careers in the industry, food science, animal science, agricultur- al mechanics, environmental issues and earth systems important to agriculture. This course covers aspects of the agriculture industry using the scientific method and is aligned to the NGSS earth science standards. Animal Science Course Code: AGR009/AGR209 State Code: 18102 Schools: PHS, SVHS Grades: 10-12th Length: Year-long Credit: 1 Course Fee: None Prerequisite: Recommended previous passing of Agricultural Lab Science Graduation Requirement: Lab Science or Occupational Course Designation: Science Lab Are you an independent learner with a love for animals? Animal Science is a great option for completing your Life Science course requirement. By participating in this course you will have experiences in various animal indus- try concepts with exciting research and hands-on activi- ties. Outside class activities and projects are required.
