Expressive and receptive signing skills, finger spelling and deaf cultural norms are taught. ASL grammar will be compared to English grammatical structure. This is a total immersion classroom in which speaking will not be allowed. American Sign Language, gesture, written English and handouts will be used. This is a performance based class in which students must eventually sign for the teacher and class to be graded. Passing grade required to continue at semester. This course is designed to expose students to deaf culture, ASL grammar and the deaf community while practicing interpreting.
