104 HIGH SCHOOL COURSE GUIDE 2022-23 High School Course Descriptions WORLD LANGUAGES Honors Spanish II Course Code: FLA061/FLA261 State Code: 24053 Schools: CAM Grades: 10-12th Length: Year-long Credit: 1 Course Fee: None Prerequisite: Spanish I Graduation Requirement: World Language Course Designation: CADR, Honors This course is designed to meet state and national stan- dards for World Languages at a novice to intermediate level: Communication: Students will use the skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Communication is the primary focus of this course. Students will continue to acquire the ability to communicate in Spanish. Cultures: Students will gain knowledge and understanding of other cultures. Connections: Students will make connections with other subject areas and acquire information. Com- parisons: Students will develop insight into the nature of language and culture by comparing the student's own language and culture to another. Communities: Students will participate in communities at home and around the world using Spanish. Spanish III Course Code: FLA011/FLA211 State Code: 24054 Schools: BGHS, PHS Grades: 11-12th Length: Year-long Credit: 1 Course Fee: Yes Prerequisite: Spanish II Graduation Requirement: World Language Course Designation: CADR Focus on application. Students will listen, speak, read and write in Spanish and learn about culture, geography and history of countries where people speak the language. Students must complete verbal and written work, practice nightly, memorize vocabulary, participate in group activi- ties and make presentations. Honors Spanish I Course Code: FLA060/FLA260 State Code: 24052 Schools: CAM Grades: 9-11th Length: Year-long Credit: 1 Course Fee: None Prerequisite: None Graduation Requirement: World Language Course Designation: CADR, Honors Description: This course is designed to meet both Washington state and national standards for World Languages at a novice level: Communication. Students will listen, speak, read and write in Spanish and learn about culture, geography and history of countries where people speak the language. Students must complete verbal and written work, practice nightly, memorize vo- cabulary, participate in group activities and make presen- tations. Students must complete each semester with 70% or better to advance. Dictionary, workbook and standard supplies required.
