"Since 1909 preparing our children succeed in e next step of eir lives" Message from the Superintendents Dear Battle Ground Patrons; As the 2013-2014 school year draws to a close, we want to extend our deep appreciation for the opportunity to work with the dedicated educators, students, parents and community members in Battle Ground Public Schools. is was a year of transition, challenges, healing and change. We set our sights high and didn't shy away from the loy expectations our students, parents and community have of us. We believe it's been a good year – and the path is well paved for many productive and positive years ahead for Battle Ground Public Schools. e District has made great strides preparing for implementation of the Common Core State Standards and the Smarter Balanced Assessments which will raise the bar for student learning. e new Teacher Principal Evaluation system is currently being implemented and will help us provide better feedback, coaching and targeted professional development for our teachers. We've worked hard to assure accountability to patrons, improve communication and rebuild trust. Across the district, we've worked to improve efficiencies, reduce costs and leverage resources. Our Board of Directors continues to work hard and support the mission and vision of a district dedicated to student achievement. We are pleased with their decision to fill the superintendent's position with the knowledgeable and highly skilled Mark Hottowe. We have great confidence in his leadership abilities that will elevate the district to greater levels of success. Despite the constraints and challenges of the past, we continue to focus on boosting success for our students and creating the system of strong and excellent schools of which our community is justifiably proud. is takes team effort and your encouragement, input, and support makes a difference. ank you for continuing to influence and champion the good work occurring in our schools. With appreciation, Duane Rose Lynn Hicks Interim Superintendent Interim Deputy Superintendent
