Meet your New Superintendent e Battle Ground Public Schools' Board of Directors recently announced their selection of Mark Hottowe as the new Superintendent. Mr. Hottowe has been visiting the district since March meeting with staff and working with current Interim Superintendent, Duane Rose, on filling vacant positions. e transition to Mr. Hottowe will take place July 1, 2014. I look forward to immersing myself in the community and partnering with our stakeholders to build on the great things already happening here. – Mark Hottowe, new Superintendent Mark Hottowe, who would later be selected as Battle Ground School District's new superintendent, responds to questions from the community at the Superintendent Finalists Community Forum. Mr. Hottowe is currently the superintendent for Ocean Beach School District in Long Beach, WA, and his previous experiences include: executive director of supervision and human resources for the Kelso School District, director of student services for the Kelso School District, elementary and middle school principal for the Kelso School District, principal in the Longview School District, assistant principal at Sumner School District and a teacher at Central Kitsap School District. Hottowe obtained his bachelor's degree from Dartmouth College in 1975, his master's degree in education from Central Washington University in 1982 and superintendent credential from Washington State University in 2013. "I am excited to begin working with the dynamic team at Battle Ground Public Schools, and see many opportunities for great things," said Mark Hottowe. "e support shown by the community for student learning and the commitment of parents and staff is impressive. I look forward to immersing myself in the community and partnering with our stakeholders to build on the great things already happening here. By working with integrity and transparency and a commitment to being approachable and accessible, I hope to rebuild the community's trust. We have a lot of challenges ahead, but I know that together we will enjoy many successes in providing a quality education to our students." Hottowe and his wife, Marcie, currently live in Longview.
