2014–15 ACCOUNTABILITY REPORT | 7 Success Smarter Balanced is a complete assessment system developed to measure real-world skills that students will need when they graduate. e Smarter Balanced system includes classroom-based, periodic and year-end assessments that will improve teaching and learning. Learn more at www.ReadyWA.org. www.readywa.org Smarter Balanced Assessment System e Smarter Balanced Assessment System has replaced existing state tests in English language arts and math for grades 3-8, 10 and 11 beginning in the 2014-2015 school year. ese new assessments measure students' learning of the new state standards and provide parents and teachers with better information to monitor student progress and help them be successful in their learning. e new assessments are administered online and are: ■ "Smarter" because portions of it are adaptive. is means the difficulty of questions adjusts depending on students' responses. ■ "Balanced" because it is part of a complete assessment system–including interim assessments and other resources–that helps teachers better prepare students for success. e district's Assessment Department has created several resources for parents and staff for the successful implementation of the new assessments.
