4 | BATTLE GROUND PUBLIC SCHOOLS STAYING THE COURSE FIT used district data and community feedback through Thoughtexchange surveys to identify more than 25 specific projects in six categories: Replacement & Renovation, New Facilities, Capital Renewal Projects, Safety and Technology, Educational Enhancements, and Athletic Upgrades. The team then prioritized the projects into three phases over the next 18 years. Each phase maximizes state assistance, creates a stable tax structure, and meets the identified needs of the district: facility condition, overcrowding, addressing enrollment growth, and school safety. BGPS PROJECT PHASES 2016 – 2033 PROJECT CATEGORY PHASE 1: 2016-2021 PROJECT DESCRIPTION [*QUALIFIES FOR STATE ASSISTANCE] Replacement & Renovation *Replace Glenwood Heights Primary and Laurin Middle schools. Cost-Benefit Analysis provides detailed information on each project *Replace Pleasant Valley Primary and Middle schools. *Replace Prairie High School 500 & 600, 700 & 800 buildings with two-story buildings and replace the 900 building. Replace District Operations building. Renovate Amboy 300 building. New Facilities *Construct a new K-4, 5-8 Campus in SE section of the district to meet enrollment growth. Construct a new 8-plex modular building at Prairie High School to accommodate growth. DISTRICT UPGRADES Capital Renewal Projects Replace carpet and flooring at CASEE Center, Prairie High School, Battle Ground High School, Yacolt and Maple Grove. Safety and Technology Update door locks district-wide, allowing staff to lockdown an area from inside a room. Upgrade school main entrances and offices with additional doors and card reader access to control building access and improve student and staff safety. Upgrade district network and cable wiring to increase network capacity, speed, and security. Improve security at Prairie High School by constructing additional perimeter fencing. Educational Enhancements Expand STEM opportunities in middle schools by retrofitting classrooms, labs, and common areas where classes are following Project Lead the Way curriculum and guidelines. Upgrade Career and Technical Education (CTE) classrooms to meet industry standards (ventilation and safety systems, lighting, configuration, etc.) . Update classrooms and community spaces to meet needs for innovative programs and teaching practices, including project-based learning and integrated curriculum. This could include shared spaces, updated furniture, use of walls, office space, and specialized classrooms. Athletic Upgrades Upgrade Amboy Gym, including flooring, roof, electrical, plumbing, and safety systems. Covered play areas (Maple Grove, Yacolt and Amboy). Replace turf at District Stadium. Add covered bleachers at Prairie High School's track and field. Upgrade District Stadium seating and surrounding area to improve safety and accessibility. PHASE I: 2016–2021 DISTRICT CONSIDERATIONS ■ ■ Finalize master site plan for 80 of the 100 acres of district- owned property within the Battle Ground downtown core. ■ ■ Research possible Skills Center branch campus within school district boundaries. ■ ■ Research land options for phase II and III school sites. ■ ■ Create a Facilities-Related Educational Plan for Alternative Learning Experience (ALE) programs: CAM Academy, Summit View High School and River HomeLink.
