GUIDE TO LONG-RANGE FACILITIES PLAN | 7 WHY ARE MODULAR BUILDINGS ADDED TO CURRENT FACILITIES? The district uses multiplex modular classrooms to accommodate enrollment growth. The additional classrooms are built once a school has a demonstrated need and most modular classrooms use local impact fees for construction. All campuses designed since 2005 include the addition of modular classrooms. The district uses modular classrooms because they have a longer lifespan and provide a better educational environment in comparison to portable classrooms. Students in modular classrooms are considered "unhoused," and are factored in as part of the funding formula for state assistance based on enrollment. WHAT IS THE PLAN FOR ALTERNATIVE LEARNING EXPERIENCE (ALE) SCHOOLS SUCH AS CAM ACADEMY, RIVER HOMELINK AND SUMMIT VIEW HIGH SCHOOL? Due to the diverse and unique needs of each ALE school, the long-range plan recommends the creation of a facilities and educational plan for each ALE school under Phase I - District Considerations. The ALE facilities plan should include, but not be limited to, options for enrollment increases, student programs, staff spaces, technology integration, and safety needs. The district will be conducting a review of each ALE program over the next year. This review will help determine additional facility needs. The current River HomeLink facility is eligible for state construction assistance due to age and is listed under Phase II (2022-2027). CAM Academy is currently in a rented facility and does not qualify for state construction assistance. Plans for future CAM Academy facilities will need to be added to the long- range plan once the ALE review is complete. Summit View High School is scheduled to change locations from CASEE Building A to CASEE Building C this summer to provide additional classroom space. HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO BUILD A NEW SCHOOL? A new school takes approximately 18 -24 months from the permitting process to opening doors. WHAT ARE CAPITAL RENEWAL PROJECTS? Capital renewal projects include facility improvements that do not qualify for state construction assistance. Examples include new roofs, parking lots, walkways, athletic facilities, flooring, electrical, air quality, plumbing and fire suppression systems, and updates to administrative offices such as CASEE, the Lewisville Campus and Operations building. Several of these projects have been identified by district facilities and maintenance staff and have been categorized in the 5-Year Maintenance Plan. Each phase of the plan has items for capital renewal under the category "District Upgrades." WHAT ARE EDUCATIONAL ENHANCEMENTS? Educational enhancements are facility changes that improve the learning environment. Facility planning must align with the district's overall educational goals. Improvements include changes to student and staff areas to provide better technology integration, expansion of career and technical programs, project-based team learning, presentation space, wall utilization, professional learning communities, and areas that promote positive social interaction. Each phase of the plan includes educational enhancements to current facilities. New facilities will use the BGPS Educational Plan as a foundation for design and incorporate feedback from district administrators, staff, parents, and community members. Each phase of the plan addresses the need for new facilities.
