The event: The celebration and open house in honor of the 20th anniversary of CASEE.

Time and date: 5 to 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 25

Place: CASEE, 11104 NE 149th Street, about a half mile west of the stop light at 149th and state Highway 503.

Event schedule:
5-6 p.m., CASEE students lead tours of the building and grounds
6-6:30 p.m.,  social time with light refreshments and visiting among former CASEE students and instructors
6:30 - 7:30, “Then and Now” presentation and Q&A, with original CASEE teachers Mark Watrin and Tim Hicks.

What is CASEE?: A place comprising a classroom building, grounds and faculty where students from Battle Ground and Prairie high schools come for three periods a day to study subjects such as biology, English, natural resources, horticulture, food science and chemistry. On any given day, the students might be in the classroom or conducting experiments and making observations anywhere on the grounds.

History: In 1984-85, when Battle Ground High School was revising its agriculture curriculum, teachers Mark Watrin and Tim Hicks had the initial vision for CASEE and were the drivers in its creation. The 80-acre site was leased in 1993 from the state Department of Natural Resources and CASEE became a reality with its own home.
