Welcome to another school year!
As we welcome back more than 13,000 students to classrooms, our primary mission continues to be preparing all of our students to be career and/or college ready after high school. We are working diligently to give our students the education, resources and confidence they need to choose a pathway that will lead them to success. Providing our teachers with the training, materials, technology and infrastructure to help our students be competitive in the field they choose to enter is vitally important. As we continue this work, here are other areas we are focusing on for the upcoming school year:
This has been a focus for our district for the past four years and will continue to be a key objective in Battle Ground schools. We want to make sure that our students are ready to learn when they enter our classrooms. This means being proactive when it comes to the social and emotional needs of our students.
As we continue to see the population rise in our district, some of our current facilities are inadequate to accommodate growth, meet safety standards and the technology requirements of the modern classroom. We will need to make some important decisions in the coming months to ensure equity for all of our students and staff.
Early Learning Partnerships
The benefits of early learning opportunities will pay big dividends for our students in the later years of their education. In order for us to address the “readiness gap” that we have seen in some of the kindergartners coming to us, we are partnering with early learning centers in our community and state-funded programs such as Head Start to help them prepare preschoolers for entry into our school system.
Meeting Community Needs
The Battle Ground Public Schools district is an integral part of our community. As Superintendent I will continue to look for ways the district can best serve the needs of North Clark County and form partnerships that will have mutual benefits for both our schools and the entire community.
We look forward to a great year and thank you for your support in making the Battle Ground Public Schools district a special place to grow and learn.
Mark Ross, Superintendent
